Product Features
- Pack of 3 Heater Elements: Sold as a set of 3 bimetallic heater elements — one per phase — sufficient for a complete 3-phase motor starter installation.
- Four Adjustable Dial Positions: One pack covers four FLA settings (4.55A, 5.5A, 6.45A, 7.4A) via the adjustment dial on the overload relay. Match the dial position to the motor’s nameplate FLA for precise thermal protection.
- Class 20 Standard Trip: Class 20 trip characteristic is appropriate for general-purpose motor applications including pumps, fans, compressors, and conveyors with normal starting duty.
- Bimetallic Sensing: Uses bimetallic strip technology to detect motor overload conditions through heat generated by excess current, providing reliable and repeatable thermal protection without solid-state components.
- Series B Heater Design: The H2009B-3 is a Series B heater pack. Series B heater packs do not include integral load lugs — load lugs are built into the overload relay base. If replacing older Series A heater packs in a Series A1 overload relay, lug adapter kit C3606KAL1-3B is required as a one-time addition. Call us at 1-800-222-5129 if you are unsure which series your relay uses.
- Also Known as Cutler-Hammer H2009B-3: Sold under both the Eaton and Cutler-Hammer brand names. Both refer to the same heater pack.
- UL Listed & CSA Certified: Approved for use in compliant motor starter installations in the US and Canada.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I select the correct dial position for my motor?
Find the motor’s full-load amperage (FLA) on the motor nameplate. Match it to the closest dial position on the H2009B-3: Position A = 4.55A, B = 5.5A, C = 6.45A, D = 7.4A. If your motor’s FLA is below 4.55A, the H2008B-3 (3.23–5.23A) is the correct heater. If above 7.4A, use the H2010B-3 (6.75–11A). Call us at 1-800-222-5129 for selection assistance.
What is the overlap between H2008B-3, H2009B-3, and H2010B-3?
Adjacent heater packs share overlapping FLA ranges by design. The H2008B-3 tops out at 5.23A (position D) and the H2009B-3 starts at 4.55A (position A) — meaning motors with FLA between 4.55A and 5.23A could be served by either pack. Similarly, the H2009B-3 tops out at 7.4A (position D) and the H2010B-3 starts at 6.75A (position A). In the overlap range, select the pack whose dial position most closely matches your motor’s exact nameplate FLA for the most accurate thermal protection.
Can I replace a Series A heater pack with the H2009B-3 (Series B)?
The H2009B-3 is a Series B heater pack (identified by the “B” in the catalog number). Series B packs are electrically equivalent to earlier Series A packs, but the load lugs are located on the overload relay base rather than on the heater pack itself. If your existing overload relay is a Series A1 relay, a one-time Lug Adapter Kit C3606KAL1-3B must be added before installing Series B heaters. Most relays in current use are Series B or later and are already compatible. If you are unsure, call us at 1-800-222-5129 with your relay’s catalog number.
Is Cutler-Hammer H2009B-3 the same as Eaton H2009B-3?
Yes — Cutler-Hammer is a legacy brand that was acquired by Eaton. The H2009B-3 is sold under both names and refers to the exact same heater pack. If your existing equipment documentation references “Cutler-Hammer H2009B-3”, the Eaton H2009B-3 available here is the correct replacement.
How many heater elements are included in the H2009B-3 package?
The H2009B-3 contains 3 bimetallic heater elements per pack — one for each phase of a standard 3-phase motor starter. The “-3” suffix in the part number indicates a pack of 3. One pack is sufficient for a single complete motor starter installation.
Is the H2009B-3 in stock for same-day shipping?
Yes — the H2009B-3 is a stocked item at Kent Electrical Supply’s warehouse in Emmaus, PA. Orders placed before 4:00 PM EST ship the same business day. Current stock quantity is shown on this page. For bulk pricing on multiple packs, call us at 1-800-222-5129 or text your RFQ to 484-425-0652.
